What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan
13 years ago I worked in another state with a delusional older man (boss) who destroyed my reputation and credibility. I walked away with a 6 figure lump sum and signed a contract not to talk. I now work for a company who is contemplating hiring this man. When I first realized they were thinking of hiring him I went to HR and told them about the situation. HR went to the owners and told them that I would not be able to work with this man and they are still contemplating hiring him.

Unfortunately, they may legally hire this man. You don't have any legal recourse. All you can do is hope that if they hire him, he doesn't bother you. If he does bother you, document everything he says and does that relates to you. Also document the fact (time, date) that you went to HR recently.

Are you perhaps under the impression that there is a law that prohibits them from hiring him because of your experience with him? There isn't.
