What is the name of your state? NY
We have a bill with a local company. I have been sending them a payment each month. In the meantime, the business went bankrupt, the owner was charged and arrested for embellezing 350,000 from the business. The last bill I received said to make the check out in the owners name. I did, because I wasn't aware of the charges and the bankruptcy. Now, the owner has come to my house on numerous occassions, crying the blues. He said if I give him 200 we can call it even. I still owe 269. I don't know what I should do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the business is in bankruptcy, then all receivables will go to the bankruptcy estate to pay creditors. By coming to your home and asking for money it sounds like he's trying to pull a fast one on the BK court. Since he's charged with a criminal offense, its unlikely his debts will be discharged anyway.

Find out what chapter of bankruptcy he's filed.. 7, 13, or 11. The monies owed to his business may have to go to the Trustee and not the owner directly. I would not, however, pay him anything directly.
