in virginia there is a crime called maiming, i was wondering what the sentence would be for a third conviction for this crime? also what would happen if the person failed to appear? is there anything that can be done to avoid jail time or to reduce the sentence? what exactly is maiming anyway? i do know that it involved a human and not an animal. also i know that each of these charges were filed as a direct result of fist-fights. would the courts take into consideration the age of the offender and the fact that although the law says they were an adult the may have been immature?

Maiming is deliberatly injuring animals for personal gratification. Most of the time, the animal would have to be put down due to the injuries. If this is the third time this person has been charged with maiming, that person needs some serious mental help. In my state a person convicted of maiming could be sentenced up to 20 years on the first offense. Your "friend" is one sick puppy and needs some help. And failure to appear will make things twice as bad.
