Hi -

I am from No. California and I have a small, home-based computer services business. In April of last year, I took on a job doing the bookkeeping for another business. This job continued until February of this year (2001). Several times during the past few months I informed my client that the bill was getting high and she needed to pay something towards the balance. She told me that I should keep adding it up and when the job was completed we would settle then. Well, it has been almost two months since I presented her with the final bill and I have yet to receive any payment for the work completed and have spoke in person with the client regarding this matter. She is now saying that she doesn't want to pay the bill - that she thinks it should be much lower. What is my next move? Her bill totaled over $1200 and I don't want to let the matter go.

Bookkeeping bill

The most common way to deal with such a situation is to take this to Small Claims court. It is a very low cost and effective procedure.
