What is the name of your state?NY
my 16 yr. old daughter was involved in fight in the hallway of her high school and a moderate amount of her hair was ripped from her head. when both girls returned from suspension, they were involved in another fight (off school property, but port to port) where my daughter hit the other girl with a bottle on the head. the police were called and an ambulance arrived on the scene. the girl was not in need of immediate medical attention and was treated curbside. by her parents admission, they did not take her to be seen at a local hospital or emergency room. my daughter was informally suspended from school pending whatever actions the 'victim's' parents wanted to take. subsequently, the school determined that is was o.k for my daughter to return after completing a conflict resolution program. i was recently notified by the police department that after the informal suspension hearing, the 'victim's' parent filed an assault charge against my daughter. i am currently deployed and was not able to make the court appearance. i believe the charge is 3rd degree assault-a misdemeanor, what can i expect to happen our next court appearance, what is the maximum amount to expect for attorney fees? p.s the 2nd fight took place around the end of september, the charge was not filed until late october. my daughter was not arrested and did not spend any time in jail.

Your daughter's lucky - in my state she'd be facing felony charges for assault with a deadly weapon.

Your daughter neds an attorney. That attorney can best assess the charges, the potential time and/or fines she faces, and what the long term consequences might be. But, I imagine it has the potential for her to do time in a youth detention facility as well as a fine.
