What is the name of your state? TX

I need to know how old I have to be to move out of my parents house without their permission. My dad has a really bad temper and it scares me but I dont know how to deal with it anymore I have too much riding on me worrying about school and scholarships for college. I need to get out. When can I do that?

Age 18. When you are a legal adult or emancipated by a court, THEN you can legally move out without their permission.

Getting a full time job and supporting yourself 100% will help prove that you are emancipated.

Trust me actually it is 17. I talked to a few police officers in Dallas a few weeks ago about this EXACT same issue.

No, it is 18. The police may not take much notice if the kid is 17, but it is still 18 if you want the age when you're GUARANTEED to be able to move out without permission.

With all due respect to Carl, getting your law information from a police officer is not always the best way to go about it.

If the parents insist on it - the kid is going back home until he's 18. Or maybe Juvie.

TX is one of those states where a loophole in the law denies them the ability to forcibly return a 17 year old to their home against their will. THAT is probably what they were refering to. I can't imagine they would say that you are effectively an adult and can leave ... just that you could not be dragged back kicking and screaming.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didnt mean he was an adult just that they couldn't force him to stay.
