It says nothing in the custody papers about me having to ask permission to move. The father lives in Wyoming. If I were to move within the state of Nebraska (7 hours further away from my ex) would I have to ask the courts permission? What if I were to move to the same state as my ex yet another 5 hours away from him. Would I have to go to the courts?

Some states have this as an operation of law, so even if the court papers don't say you have to notify the court and the NCP, operation of law may dictate that you have to. Usually it's 30 to 60 days before the move to give the NCP time to object.

IMHO, you should contact the court with this information, otherwise you may find yourself in court on contempt charges. As IAAL once told someone, they could force you to move back to where you came from, haul you into court and your custody could be in jeopardy.

What percent of parenting time does the NCP have? Are you willing to pay for your child to visit (both ways) since you're the one who moved? Consider these and find out about the laws in your state.

The NCP has 4 hours of supervised visitation every other weekend - He has never exercised his right to this visitation.

So you think even if I move within the state to notify the courts?
