Hello,

We got married in California and moved to Europe where we have all our property. We both have different nationalities. One is US and the other European. My spouse wants a divorce. Which law applies here? If it is CA law, then what about property that was acquired before marriage and goods acquired during marriage? What are the rules in this case for spousal support?

Thank you for your advice

My response:

The law of the country where you have gained residency applies - - not California. California was merely the place where you were married. You'll need to check with an attorney in your country of residency concerning spousal support, alimony, and your other questions (assuming, of course, that your country of residency has similar support laws we enjoy in the United States).
