I noticed that no one is touching any pregnancy discrimination questions, and I really need some answers fast. I worked for a company who has time and again discriminated against pregnant and new mothers...firing or forcing them to resign or telling them they do not have a job to come back to after leave. This has happened to 3 people already this year and is about to happen again. They had over 15 employees regularly it seems until people started families....suddenly the boss cut back and understaffed to 10-12 people and just doubled the work load saying the new staff was just "more efficient". I would love to give more details as there are so many more aspects and twists to this, but if it is not short you get no replies either.

I handled a couple of maternity questions, but if you feel that your company is discriminating against pregnant women you should immediately call the EEOC. While it is not illegal to lay off or term someone who is pregnant, it is illegal to lay her off because she is pregnant, and if this is happening frequently then the pattern of behaviour will go a long way toward proving that the "efficiency" excuse is just that - an excuse.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. Will the EEOC listen to me because the company now has less than 15 employees (this is why I have not filed with them yet). Or is the owner now "above the law"? I was the third person this happened to this year and when it first happened I did contact EEOC and they specifically asked if the company had 15 + employees before I had a chance to explain anything, so I never filed anything. Now they are threatening a 4th person who became pregnant and are already having her train her "replacement". I want this company stopped from doing this to people....it is just not right.

No one is above the law. If the EEOC can't help you, call an attorney.
