What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

Why is it that when an adult male has sex with an adult female and she gets
pregnant he is responsible for the whole medical bill?

Seems to me they should each pay half.

Thank you.

I assume that the mother used medicaid for insurance? If so, the reason why is because the mother already proved to be indigent...hence why she qualified for medicaid in the first place.

I agree that its unfair for the state to go after the father for the whole amount of the birthing costs, but I believe that the theory behind that is to discourage unwed fathers from continuing to spread their seed, outside of wedlock.

Well the theory may or may not be correct , legally speaking the State wants to be reimbursed , if at all possible .

On the theory scenario , if that were the case ,the State should be sending a message to promiscuous females ,also .

The tax payers do not like to pick up the tab of other's children .

One would think that the pain of childbirth would be enough of a message to the females. But alas....its obviously not!

Acually, childbirth is not that painful, thanks to the almighty epidural!
Some of us didn't have that option...:p

(as a side note my very good friend recently had her fourth baby...completely naturally. No drugs. Nothing. Baby was 10 lb 4 oz, 23 inches long with a head circumference of 36 centimetres. My eyes water just THINKING about that one...)
