Whose will is it? What does the will say? Has she opened probate?

the will is her husband's it has been 1 1/2 years since he passed away, she has done nothing to get the property put in her name. i talked to the probate count and the lady there told me i would have to get an attorney to probate the will but sometime you don't need one. so im just trying to figure out the easiest way to deal with this.

Get an attorney.

What type of assets are there? If it involves real estate, then probate is automatically needed. So yes, you/she needs to be hiring a probate attorney but get different fee quotes so you don't just hire the first one you talk to and find out what the legal rate for executor is in your state.
