This woman lives in Pennsylvania and desperately wants to leave her husband. They have two children 10 and 8. Her income is only marginal.

She contacted a lawyer who told her to grab as much money as she could and leave now, since she's afraid this husband might react violently if she would announce she wants a divorce.

Was this advice a good one or should she stay on and wait it out ... I mean the situation is almost intolerable.

My opinion is if he is a violent guy, Yeah get the kids and some money and go and don't look back. Well at least until you can get some help!! It sounds like this guy needs some mental help! NOBODY should ever get violent with his family, he should love and care for his family not hurt them.

I hope this is not too late. As a battered woman, let me tell you what she needs to do BEFORE she leaves:

1. Get the birth certificates of children in her possession.

2. If she has a passport, get it.

3. Write down all checking and savings account numbers and the name of the banks regardless if her name is on it. Don't let him know.

4. Get a copy of her marriage certificate.

5. The day she does leave, pack as much clothes for her and children, special things for kids, and go to bank and take 1/2 of whatever is in each account. She is entitled to half.

Then she needs to go to a safe house, go to court and request a restraining order that will encompass the house she will be staying in for the time being. I sure hope this helps. You can email me if I can help some more. [email protected].
