What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA
My college is charging me ridiculous amounts for "damage" to my dorm room. I appealed and they will not change their decision. I am being charged $500 for 4 missing/broken screens. One was in fact broken, but we never had the other three.
I am being charged $50 for a sticker they say i had on my door which requires painting. I did not have a sticker, and even if I did the doors are made out of a synthetic type of wood which are pre finished with some type of plastic coating, they cannot be painted.
I am also being charged $75 for a broken towel rack. The towel rack was made out of scrap plywood, with the edges screwed into each other for the sides; screws in the side of plywood cannot hold as the wood is pressed together and there is nothing for the screws to grab to: i.e., the towel rack was made out of scrap wood, now they want $75 for a new one, which is a ridiculous price even if we did break a nice towel rack.
The last two years I was also charged for missing couches, chairs, and broken blinds. All these charges were appealed because they were bogus and they did award me my money back, so I plan on bringing these emails from previous appeals to court with me, to show they have charged falsely in the past.
Will I win in small claims court without a lawyer for this years bogus charges?
