What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
I live in Tennessee, the soon to be ex and our case in Louisiana
Our divorce has been taking a very long time and I can never get my spouse to contact his lawyer for anything so I always have to do things myself and it's difficult since it is his lawyer and not mine. Finally after his lawyer told me he would send me my papers to sign after several times I decided to just make an appointment in person and drive down there to sign them. So at the beginning of May my spouse and I went to the appointment together agreed on everything and signed everything. His lawyer told us we should receive the papers in the mail signed by the judge at the end of May. It's now the end of May and the other day I called the clerk of court to find out if the divorce had gone through and she said nothing had been scheduled so then I called the lawyers office and the woman said I would be put on the call back list and either get a call yesterday evening or this morning, no phone call yet. I'm a little concerned because of previous experience with the lawyer telling us things would happen and they never do. I understand he has other cases and is busy but this is a simply process and we have been trying to get a divorce for 2 years now and I'm ready for it to be over. Should I keep trying to contact the lawyer until I get in touch with him or back off? In the past it seems like the only time anything gets done is if I stay on his lawyer. I don't know what to do anymore. Thanks.
