I just had a bad thought. I am at a new job, my dream job, in fact. I just met my good friend for lunch; he had a beer and I had a glass of wine.

This job comes after a big relocation and lots of personal work to make it happen, so I am perhaps a bit oversensitive about it, but I am wondering -- can I get in trouble (or fired) for having a glass of wine at lunch during the workday? The reason I ask is because the employee handbook states the following on the subject:

2. working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or selling, possessing or distributing illegal drugs while at work... [is prohobited...];

Obviously I'm not tipsy or anything, it was just a glass of bad wine.

Am I just being out-of-my-mind rediculous, or should I be concerned?

Thanks SO much for your help.

My response:

OOOOOOOOOOh, you're a baaaaaaaaaaaad person !!

No, of course not. The key phrase is, " . . . under the influence." You know your limitations, and all because you allowed wine to touch your lips, doesn't mean you're going to be fired. They don't want somebody to fall all over themselves or be drunk. They want a "conscious" person to do their work. And, if you're that concerned about yourself, and your tolerance level, merely abstain while you're on the clock. Relax, and have a big "fatty."
