Moved out of ex-girlfriends apt, after she changed the locks and we broke up. Only her name on the lease. Moved most of my property out. Although I have made arrangements for her to drop off my remaining property at a friends house (both personal property as well as a digital DVR box from a cable account in my name), she has made no effort to do so. Tried to file a police report, but was told by the front desk that there is no real law she is breaking. Have initiated a mediation, but am wondering if there is a faster way to approach a resolution. I don't really expect her to show at mediation, I'm just trying to help my case before I go to court.

In other words, do I have a specific claim to my property, and a reason for the police to investigate, other than in small claims.

Why would you think it'd Her responsibility to " drop off " your property to you ?

Prove the things belong to you , and see if you can get a Police escort to pick them up .

If the PD won't then file civil actions with your proofs .

Her father called me and said "don't go there, anything of yours will be mailed to you" a few weeks ago. I sent an email, and she called me claiming some money and part of my property.

Now I have been sent a general "cease and desist" letter from her lawyer, saying to not go there or contact her in any way. He also states that if I believe any of my property to be at her residence, that I should send him a list. It is pretty clear to me that she has no intent to return my property, and that if I do send a list, all of my items will go in the trash.

I have ordered receipts for most items and a witness for a couple of items I received as gifts. I'm sure that if I go with police escort, she will not open the door.

If I were you , I'd send the list to the Lawyer , with receipts .

It sounds like you'll have to deal with the Lawyer now , or the Courts .

Can I file some kind of police report to have them investigate whether the items are still there, so that I can bring to court a form of proof that she has my property? It seems absurd that someone could effectively steal your items, and then throw them away to avoid prosecution or for you to get your property back or get compensation for it.

No , it's a civil matter now . You've been contacted by her Lawyer , adhere to it or face consequences .
