What is the name of your state? Oregon

Hi, I have a bit of an ant problem in my apartment complex that I've been struggling with management over for a few months. We have tried several different options like exterminators, foggers, baits...etc, long story short we never got rid of them, not yet, and I have 6 months on the lease. I am not considering breaking the lease because of this, but they refuse to treat the inside of the walls. This is not my main concern at the moment though...

I asked the manager if it would be cool if I used caulk in a few of the cracks and crevices in the windowsills, a few baseboards and around a cupboards. I did not get it in writing but she had told me that it was no problem so I went ahead and did it, the maintanence man even came and did some caulking himself and provided me with an extra tube. Could this be used against me and taken out of my deposit as damage when I decide to move? admittedly, I did a slightly sloppy job in a few spots...

Thanks in advance.

We had the same ant problem. We had ant traps all over our apt. We would wake up to find the ant traps covered in black by ants. This may sound weird but we got rid of our problem by sprinkling "Johnsons" baby powder. a line of it along the baseboards inside our apt...and along the sink where the ants could get in near the wall. We left if there for 1 week, and when we could see where the ants came in we sprinkles inside the cracks. IT WORKS. The powder the ants do not like. (not to say they don't get over it, but they hate it). It makes it slippery for them to climb, and when they breath in powder I guess it suffocates them. Plus side is it is not toxic to animals or kids, and smells ok. Landlord really should of had outside of your apt sprayed all around foundation. Faith

Thank you for your advice, I will try the baby powder if the problem persists, seems like i've tried everything except tossing the kitchen sink at em :)

Do you have any advice or opinion on the caulk? Do you think I should worry about getting that cut out of my deposit? One other thing I forgot to mention was that I had previously requested her written approval for the caulk, after the fact, I never got an answer though! That makes me worried, it would have done me better to ask for written approval before-hand but I took her word for it when she had said it would be OK.
