What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

We have found the name of heating and a/c ( certified) person from the trade skill section of VA Craigslist. Our split -unit a/c needed some attention. He arrived and we paid him $80-00 for diagnostic visit. Second day he was working for a few hours and on the way hime he met me and said that everything was OK now, but as he said, our unit needed more freon ( or sort of cooling substance) and he would bring this freon next day. He gave me a bill and I paid another $300-00. Later, when I was at home, I did not turn our a/c on, because he asked me to wait till next day, when he would fill it with coolant.

Yes, he came next day and left very shortly. Later in the evening I came home from my work I have found that a/c is still not working, and it was a note, where it was written, that this split-unit system is beyond his understanding , he can not repair it and he promised to returned $200-00.

We invited a/c professionals from local Electrical Company, and they have done a good job. They made us a written statement of what was wrong with a/c . Nothing extraordinary, it was connected in a wrong way.

I called this man, he promised to send $200-00 next day , but we haven't heard from him for the last three weeks. What is our option? Of course, these $200-00 will not destroy our well-being, but it is so bitterly sad to face dishonesty, and I do not feel I want to forget it. Help me, please. Thank you .

Contact the company and demand a refund. You're best bet is to get a manager and owner and tell him what the other repair man said and that the other guy promised to give you the $200 back and he never did. Was it in writing? Show him that as well. He didn't do the job right and you shouldn't have to be out $200. This is why I don't always trust Craigslist. Too many shady people.

Thank you for your advice. It looks like that he is the owner of his one-person company. I have no one to contact but this person. Yes, I have a note, where he promised to returned $200-00 because this split unit is as he wrote " beyond his ability...". I tried to call him several times , but he did not answer the phone. I guess, there is nothing else I can do but to go to the small claims' court. I have heard about BBB, but they are probably interested in big companies , not these dwarf-cheaters, presenting themselves as professionals on Craigslist. I know I have to react in one way or another because I want him to stop his cheating practice...
