I have been following a local political controversy and, in anger, without thinking it through sufficiently, sent an indelicate 3 sentence email message to the lawyer leading the charge for the side I disagree with. I indicated that I was disgusted by his communications with some of opponents of the issue (friends of mine who he threatened to sue) and that he should be ashamed of himself and that his colleagues should be embarrassed to be associated with him. I called him "ignorant" and "unethical." To make matters worse, I copied the board members of the organization he directs.
While there are specific, documented matters of fact that one could point to which demonstrate that he has disregarded the truth in pursuing his objectives in this controversial matter, I worry that using those charged words and copying the message to his colleagues leave me vulnerable to a libel suit.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
