What is the name of your state? I am in Alabama

I work for a gentleman who wants me to put a site up about sociopaths. I thought it would be informational as I have done the work already. www.sociopathalert.com but now he wants it registered in India and hosted in India as well a a register where people can go and post information about people that they believe are sociopaths. Now since most of these people (that will be posted) may or may not be sociopaths how do I protect myself from being held liable or responsible for the website. As just recently Google and another large site are getting sued in Canada over what appeared in their blogs. How can I protect myself and what he wants to do with this site. He is my main employeer would it be easier to just leave and find another job?

The only way to protect yourself would be lots of liability insurance.

Sorry.

I am not an insurance agent, so I don't even know if such a thing is available.

But go find out.

I suspect OP is baiting us but just in case there is some fool out there really considering this, I’ll respond.

Sbrault, does your boss have a death wish? Have you researched HIS mental disorder? I find it hard to believe that anyone in his right mind would choose to provoke an entire group of “unstable” individuals in this manner.

While the risk of a lawsuit should be far from your primary concern, the register you describe will certainly result in lawsuits. The site owner’s liability would depend on whether the owner does anything to contribute to any defamatory content.

It may be possible to set up the register in a way that protects the owner, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I only scanned that site but I didn't see any type of registry of alleged sociopaths.

It is the registry idea that is so risky.

That site allows people who believe they have been victimized by sociopaths to share their stories, which sometimes include the "sociopath's" name and place of residence.

Is it a valid warning system or just revenge? I don't know.

I would caution one against doing this, especially when the "sociopath" has not been diagnosed by a mental health professional. What if the person is not a sociopath, but his boss finds the site and fires him, then he loses his home because he can't pay for it? IMO, the possibility of real damages does exist.

The best thing to do with a sociopath is to walk away... for good.

Just wanted to let you all know

I have chosen not to do this site. I have told my boss and he is not happy with me but oh well. He has my design work up to this point as per my contract but I have walked away. My name is no where on the design work.
I believe he is risking alot as well. But he wont listen to me. So I will move on.
