What is the name of your state? Virginia

I live off a main road, my neighbor lives on a private road that runs beside my house. They have no trespassing signs posted at the end of their driveway.
About two weeks ago UPS left my neighbor's package at the end of my 410 ft. driveway. I didn't realize it was for my neighbor until I got to the end of my driveway. I ran it down the main road, up the private road, saw their no trespassing signs, and left it at the end of their driveway. I'm not sure they got it because about 45 minutes later I saw another neighbor stop and it looked like they picked up something and put it in their car and left.

If I had taken the package to the neighbor's door, would that be trespassing? Would I be in violation of any laws?

Delivering a package to your neighbor’s door generally would not be considered criminal trespassing. Here is a link to Virginia’s trespassing laws:

Because your neighbor has posted No Trespassing signs, however, you might in the future want to call your neighbor first to tell him/her that a package was delivered to your house in error and let your neighbor pick it up.

You could even send them a post card you can buy from post office and do a short note, telling them that recently UPS delivered a package to your home for them by mistake and that you left it at the end of their driveway and would like to know if you could have thier phone number so if this happens again you can just call them to inform them you have a package left at your home for them and they should stop by to pick it up. ( they may actually appreciate this )

I am not sure that it would be smart for jb79 to mention the previous delivery since he suspects someone other than his neighbor might have picked it up. jb79 doesn’t want to be blamed for any lost or stolen package.

If there is a next time, however, either a phone call to his neighbor, or a postcard if he doesn’t have his neighbor’s phone number, probably would be better than leaving a package at the end of the neighbor’s driveway.
