What is the name of your state? NY

My husband died suddenly in 2025. It was determined quickly that I would only get benefits for my teenager because I work.

Suddenly, I got a deposit for me and a deposit for my son. The website says my payments are suspended because it was determined I work. I never said otherwise or changed anything. The site also said that I didn't have any overpayments.

I've never dealt with this before. Are they going to just pull that money back out of my account? It bites if so because it would definitely help, but I'm not trying to get in trouble with the government.

What are the chances of they do send something down the line about overpayment that I can successfully use the waiver? It really would made a big difference.

Same thing happens with Social Security when somebody dies. The payment has already been processed in advance of the month it's due and they take it back eventually.

Call and confirm but don't spend it.

I don't understand though. My husband died in May. The funeral home reported it. They had everything set up in June. Then in September the payments for my newly turned 18 yr old were stopped.

Do I have a chance for the waiver?

That's when benefits for the child of a deceased parent are supposed to stop - at age 18.
