California. I am one of two supervisors working in the education field with 120 elementary students. It has been brought to my attention yesterday that 2 former employees held a meeting on school property without the principal's knowledge with parents and told them the I am physically abusing students there. This is, of course, not true and malicious. I believe that the 2 former employees are motivated by prejudice (as I am African-American and one believes that I am homosexual). Can I sue them both for slander or defamation?

My response:

Of course you can. Whether or not you'll win is another issue.

Got lots of money to pay for the litigation?

Pretty serious stuff here. Are you represented by the CTA or NEA or an administrative union? Have you reported the incident(s) to the school principal?
