What is the name of your state? Michigan

Is it true there is a cap of 400K on settlements and even if a jury comes back with a multi-million verdict the families can only collect 400K? Thanks in advance.

For wrongful death? When calculating the potential lost income over the expected lifetime of the victim? If you say so. But no, I didn't look, the OP can google just as well as I can.

Thanks guys I forgot to add it was non-economic damages when I googled I'm seeing different figures in the 600K range. The victim had no minor children. I just want to have correct info this is what the lawyer is telling my friend. I'm thinking he just want a quick settlement and wrap up the case before the end of the year. This is a medical malpractice case.

Sometimes wrapping up a case quickly is the best result. Going to court can be both expensive, time consuming and with no guarantees.

Your lawyer should have the code sections as to what the maximum is, ask for it and read it for yourself if you have doubts.

It is in your lawyer's vested interest, especially if on contingency to get the most for you which gets the most for him.
