I can't help but think that Texas would have been MUCH better off with Kinky Friedman as Governor
In 1995, the Texas Supreme Court defined privacy rights as "..the right to be free from..th publicizing of one's private affairs with which the public has no legimate concern, or the wrongful intrusion into one's private activities in such manner as to outrage or cause mental suffering, shame or humiliation to a person of ordinary sensibilities", and in 2005 a YMCA in Midwest City posted signs prohibiting photographing or videotaping, especially in locker rooms. However, Texas has also decided that there is no expectation of privacy in department store fitting rooms where posted signs state that fitting rooms are under surveillance. And there is no statute that states whether school districts may install video surveillance cameras in student locker rooms although teachers need parental consent to videotape students in their classrooms.
Notice of videotaping allows for videotaping in most circumstances in Texas, it appears.
Just in March of this year, your legislature passed, and your Governor signed, a bill allowing county and court clerks to disclose "in the ordinary course of business" social security numbers contained in documents held by their offices - although every other state considers the release of social security numbers a serious privacy threat. Your Governor has also approved mandatory HPV vaccines for children.
I, like Flying Ron, would be concerned.
