My hubby has 2 girls - 11 and 13. The younger one wants to live with her dad. The older one does not want to hurt anyone's feelings so will stay with the mom. A lawyer told me that it takes about 20 grand to change the custody and involves psychiatrists and a very lengthy often ugly legal battle. I've also heard that when the child is 12 that the judge will give serious consideration to the child's preferences - we live in Illinois. Does anyone know if you have to go through all that hassle if the child wants to live with you and is willing to go to court. She wants to know if she would be able to file the motion although I suspect that her dad would have to. Anyone with simillar experiences?
