If your friend was trying to elude law enforcement and got into a crash that totaled the vehicle, the first step is to get legal help right away. Fleeing police can itself be a crime, so having a lawyer who understands traffic and criminal issues is really important. It’s also generally a good idea to report the accident to the police and notify the insurance company, but only after talking with an attorney so you understand the possible consequences and how to protect his rights.
