What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SC
Morning y'all.

If you're being hired as an employee do you pay for your own background check? Maybe the law doesn't address this. It is required for employment.

There are a lot of scammers out there posting jobs and telling the applicants that they must pay for a background check. There are no jobs, and there are no background checks. Just people pocketing the money of people who probably can't afford it.

If you know who the company is, and where they are located, it may be legit. If it's a work at home job, or they won't tell you where they are located or where the job is located, don't pay it.

Legit company. Not a work-from-home opp, although I've dealt with legit opps like that.

I worked for them before as independent contractor and paid for it. Just weird that now everyone will be an employee, but they're still required to pay for their own background check.

There is no law thats says employers cannot require potential employees to pay for their own background check as a condition of employment.
