Just an update
I just wanted to update the situation. Last week, the LL came over to look at the carpet herself. She took one look and said" Oh, this is not acceptable at all!" She promptly called her insurance agent to leave her a message. The agent finally came over to take some pictures. I heard from the LL Friday, the new carpet is being installed next week, at no cost to me! She also made the comment that the basement walls needed "freshened up". I told her that I would gladly re-paint the basement (at my cost, and the same neutral color) since she was getting new carpet. She happilly agreed.
