What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
My question concerns charges for emergency ambulance transportation of a patient who belongs to Kaiser Permanente and is also covered by Medicare.
The bill was for $721.30. Kaiser paid the provider $246.25. I am assuming the amount Kaiser paid is the Medicare reimbursement rate because the Medicare manual clearly states that emergency ambulance transportation is covered by Medicare.
The patient has been contacted by a collection agency regarding payment of the $475.05 difference (721.30 - 246.25). Is he obligated to pay this? The paperwork from Kaiser states that the coinsurance/copayment is 0.00 and the patient's obligation is 0.00.
Thank you. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
