What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri. Can I claim the computer I bought my husband for his birthday as a gift even if I had to borrow the cash from the bank?

Absolutely, you may claim that it is a gift. Problem is, gifts, other than to qualified charities, are not deductible.
