What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana

My father has a house and wants to put one of us kids on the deed. If that is done, when he passes (he is 91) would we then become responsible for the mortage? None of us are on the mortage, just my dad and my mom who passed away a year ago. The house is old and the mortage is horrible and none of us want to get stuck with the mortage.

You aren't obligated to pay the mortgage (it's a debt of the estate), but the bank will foreclose and the house sold even if it is deeded/willed 100% to you.

Further, deeding things to children is generally a bad idea for both the senior and their children.
