What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OH
I received a tax lien for something I believe has been paid, but I have no clue where to start. Here is the story:
2013 I was going back and forth between Ohio and PA. My license was from Ohio. In the summer of that year, I hit a pretty big score at the local casino (~64k). I was given the option right then and there to have taxes withheld. The casino with held both federal and state. The state withheld is Ohio taxes as that is what my idea said. I filed my taxes that year I believe through turbo tax and I completely understand I may have screwed it up. At the time, I was technically living in PA and working from home from my company that was based out of Ohio.
Fast forward to now. I find out through records research that I had a judgement from the State of Ohio for roughly 4500 dollars which is the portion of the winnings, plus I am assuming some type of penalty or fines. I have the W-2g form from the casino that proves they with held the money for Ohio. Ohio I am assuming is saying they never received the money from the winnings.
I just started a new job in November and I am on really limited funds right now, so I want to try and DIY if I can. Does anyone have any advice on where I should start and how Ohio could sue me in Ohio when at the time of the filing, I was licensed and living in PA. They never alerted otherwise I would have known sooner to handle.
