Employers Knowledge of "Pending" Arrest in TX

What is the name of your state? Texas
Scenario: (honestly, this is not about me!)

Cops come to my house with search warrant.
Take me into custody because they found some drugs in my house.
Many hours later allow me to go home; charges pending.

Three days later, cops call my place of employment and inform my employer that I have been charged with poss. of drugs and that I hang out with a person that is known to be into identity theft.

Do they have the right to call my employer?

I can't imagine why not since arrests are public record. It's not like they're giving out information that the employer couldn't find on their own.

Yes, it's true that arrests are public record, but an arrest has not yet occurred. Doesn't that make a difference?

btw, thank you for answering!
