What is the best (or only) way to verify employment of a potential tenant? Does verification of employment include salary verification?

Use yellow pages to locate employer and ask to speak to human resources for employment verification(Do not use the number the applicant gave you). Demand current pay stubs from employee.

Ditto - most credit reports show last reported employer so you should verify that the employer they are providing is correct

Last reported employers does not necessarily = current employer or current income.

Current paystubs verify income.

Yellow Pages - may not be current.

Pulling a credit report is fine, but a background check is also important, as is checking wiht local Sheriff's dept for arrest record. Credit report does not show evictions - only judgments, and it takes a while for those to show up. However, evictions will show up if you check county municipal court records (easily accessible online and usually current).
