What is the name of your state? DC
Hi, I am from Manhattan, NY, but I am currently a sophomore at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. I have had NO prior run-ins with the law and have a PERFECT record (no speeding or parking tickets...I mean NOTHING). Two weeks ago, under the influence of some of my less intelligent friends, I attended at 18 and over event at a DC night club. Under the pressure from my friends, I first gave a false identification at the door, unawares at the time that it was 18 and over. When the bouncer turned the ID down, I relinquished it without a fight. He asked me if I had any real ID and I showed him my 19 year old drivers license. He then allowed me into the club. Later that night, my underage friend (but who had gotten in with a fake) was trying to buy a table. She convinced me to use my credit card as she had forgotten hers at home. I offered the man my credit card but when he realized I was underage he took me outside. He asked me to show my real driver's license, which I did. I then offered to leave the club as soon as my real drivers license, which was being looked at by another bouncer, was returned to me. The return of the license was refused to me. I offered to give them all of my information but I requested my ID be returned a second time. They then escorted me outside of the rope and when I finally gave up on getting the ID returned, I asked for the man's name who had taken it and he refused to give it to me. I called the police and reported the crime, I was honest about the false identification when I filed the report. It is two weeks later and the club has yet to return my calls about the ID. If I do not get it returned, could I hold them accountable for theft? If it is, can they send me to jail for use of a false identification? I believe that (even attempted) use of a fake ID in DC is a Class 1 misdemeanor. PLEASE HELP ME. Thank you.
