What is the name of your state? Ohio but happened in Florida

I really need help. While staying at a Hotel this past weekend in Florida my $2200 laptop was stolen out of my room. This was the only thing missing and there are signs that point to the housekeeping staff. The issue is though that When we left the room the door did not shut all the way (it was broken).
They are still investigating this inccident but even the hotel manager seen the door was broken.
What I want to know is who is liable. I think the hotel should at least pay half of the cost to replace this VERY expensive laptop but have not offered anything yet. I dont know if this is considered small claims or not but I plan on going after them if I do have a case. I feel they should have checked to make sure everything was working before they rented the room out and I also feel that it is possible the staff knew about the door.
Any advice would be helpful

**A: did you know the door was defective prior to leaving your laptop in the room when you left the room?
