My mother died testate and has less than $1000 in belongings. Is it necessary to probate the will?

Exactly what type of belongings (personal property, furniture, clothing, jewelry?)? Are they going to be sold or not?

Contact your local county courthouse probate court to find out what the minimum value must be before probate is required.

All items were distributed and remainder goes to the personal representative, which is myself. Items remaining - Jewelry, collectable plates, clothing.

In many states (such as mine) there is a state law requiring that all wills be probated. Check with your probate court.
