Michigan
My elderly mother in-law had a general homeowner's policy. One day she is solicited by another insurance company. Somehow she thought this 2nd policy was only appliance coverage (repair/replace refrigerator, stove, furnace, etc...), so she accepted. For many years she paid these 2 policies.
Then one day her home burned (total loss). The 2 insurance companies got together and split the claim, each paying half. This is when she realized that for years she had been paying 2 complete homeowner's policies. Is this standard procedure? Seems to me she was somewhat taken advantage of. Should she be entitled to some sort of a refund of premiums paid... anything?
Thanks
