I was a passenger in a car wreck about 2 weeks ago. I have a very bad neck injury, but before this wreck I had just got over it... so frustrating. I have an extremely serious case of arthritis in my neck with bone spurs sprouting out like tree limbs in my spine. For over 6 months I had been off those powerful pain meds and actually been able to work somewhat but now I fear it has became far worse.

That night at the ER the Catscan showed a bone spur indeed had again damaged a few nerves. My neck istelf locally on my left and right side are now in constant pain, sometimes it developes into blinding headaches that make me literally want to be put under. My left are I and mostly my left hand I have now lost a great deal of sensation in and strength, in my right hand the tips of my fingers feel like they are dead entirely.

The ER doctor told me I shouldn't do much of anything but stry to keep my neck supported until I follow up with a familn doctor who can refer me to a neurologist. I have been a self employed cable television construction worker my entire life and now I can't even hardly tie up my boots let alone climb up and down power poles. I prayed it would go away but it hasn't, I have lost over 600 dollars in wages in the past two weeks. However the insurance company is demanding something in writing from a doctor.. when I called the ER doctor back he actually refused to put into writing the instructions he gave me at bedside. Because I don't have cash and have to use a family doctor that will bill pip I had to wait until 11-9 to get into a doctor for a referal.

I desperately need my lost wages to start rolling in immediately, is it even legal for a doctor to refuse to put in writing his recommendations? How can I go about getting lost wages from the date of the accident? I do have an attorney but I am having a very terrible time getting him to realize how desperate I am for my rent money.

I do know the insured had purchased additional PIP up to 50,000$ and also has 25,000$ in bodily injury insurance. However the Insurance company I believe is lying to me in telling me the insured has 10,000 in pip and only 200 a week for lost wages... the declarations page says up to 50,000 in additional pip and 500.00$ a week in lost wages.

Now does that only kick in after the first 10 grand is gone?

And It also seems to me anybody with a brain looking at my nasty CT scan could see that I should even be carefull sneezing with the seriousness of my neck injury.

Any ideas on how I can secure some kind of funds out of this to support my family while I try yet again to endure the miserable epidural shots and nerve blocks and the physical therapy which I think actually makes my neck worse...

I desperately need advice I have never had a claim, though once I had an opporunity to do that I didn't because I was so afraid of my insurance rates going up.... but they did anyway and only I had to pay out of pocket the expenses to fix me back up to being able to feed my family.

I'm only 33 years old, but I do have some serious signs of the hard labor I've had to live off of... I just want to be able to tought it out a few more years at least until I can have a little money saved up for retirement.

But right now it looks like my career and my life as I know it is ruined.. :(

Please help!

Ask the doctor if it is okay to use a 3" soft cervical collar, when you are getting the extreme headaches. You should consider sleeping with it on also for a while. You might also consider propping a pillow under your neck at night, to keep the spasms from pulling the vertebrae out of place. Another inexpensive thing to consider is requesting the doctor prescribe sleeping pills. If you don't want heavy narcotics, some people use 151 rum as a ummm general anesthetic.

I am not a medical practitioner, but have experience with similar issues. I do not advocate you do anything mentioned without consulting a physician.

You really should talk to a lawyer, but you can't get money until you settle, and you can't settle until your treatment is COMPLETE and you are fully recovered or as close to it as you're going to get.

The ER would have given you discharge instructions, and that is all you will get from them. The ER doctor is not following you, he saw you once. He of course would not have recommended you wait 2 weeks before following up with your PCP or specialist. Generally with PIP you don't need referrals, you can just call the neuro and get an appointment (that may not be faster, but if you wait until after 11/9 it will take that much longer). But I find it hard to believe you couldn't find a family doctor willing to bill your auto insurance that could take you before next week....you need to call more doctors.

That is EXACTLY what I thought, but around here family doctors don't want to deal with car accidents. It is more than likely because a very large part of the popultion is addicted to narcotic pain killers. However I did notice my discharge papers tell me not to do anything at all but rest.

And my lawyer said I can start getting my lost wages now, he doesn't mind at all it will just add to the total he gets to take his fee from though.

I have a custom made stiff neckbrace that alleviates the pain, however if I use it too much I end up hurting far worse it makes it impossible to go without it eventually. What I do is hot baths, I hang upside down, and in extreme circumstances when I am about ready to blow my brains out I resort to the neck brace.

I have 4 pinchd nerves and now I have pressure on my spinal cord. It inflammes now and actually stops the circulation of the spinal fluid which causes headaches that make me literally go blind and puke up anything I have eaten, then I dry heave for awhile.. then I shake uncontrollably and my arms go numb. My arms feel like after your leg gos to sleep and starts waking up.. the pins and needles.. only it also literally feels like my arms are on fire too.. along with my neck.

I went bac to the ER because my neck and head was hurting so bad, the doctor asked if I had hurt my chest right... well heck I couldn't tell if you cut off a toe when my head hurts like that. Come to find out I also had 3 broken ribs and I wasn't aware of it because the severity of the pain in my neck, arms, and head.

They tell me I probably won't be able to ever work again and they want me to go for disabililty now.... I just can't do that. I have kids to feed I can't survive on no 1200 bucks a month... I just don't know what I'm gonna do, please pray for me that this time they heal me up good.

I suspect that you should wear the brace all the time, at least until you see the doctor. If you are actually leaking or blocking the flow of spinal fluid then you need to not be moving your neck AT ALL until that has resolved. You could end up with permanent nerve damage or paralysis!

You can pick up a collar at most drug stores for around ~$15.
The pip should have given you a claim # to give to the care givers. And you can always go to the Emergency room if need be.
Your lawyer should also be able to hook you up with a local orthro surgen.

Go to work wearing your collar. They may be able to give you light work or send you home.....

I have spent most my life self employed as a cable television lineman. This has destroyed my career, I can't climb telephone poles with a neck brace on and I can't be up in the air handling heavy stuff with an arm that is liable to stop working.

I am also a machinist and fabricator.. I can't weld worth a crap anymore nor can I use my hands like I should.

Most of my employment is from underground mining, my last position was a blaster. I wouldn't want to try loading, wiring, and detonating charges let alone crawling around underground lol. I don't think I am ever going to be allowed to work again, and actually this time I don't think I should try to cheat the doctors orders I'm really worried my arm will stop working or else it will get worse and I'll stop breathing or something.

My old lady has noticed spasms while I'm laying down at night.. she said it was like when a baby cries and jerks to get a breath without the crying. Thats a new thing and its pretty scarey, I'm actually just now leaving for the ER again to see if its serious.

OP - seriously. I wish you'd stop driving yourself to and from the ER with grave injuries and a suspended license.

LOL.... touche. This time I waited for the ambulance. The last time I was before a judge she made me swear an oath with my hand raised that I would not violate her conditions of my bond which was "DO NOT DRIVE".

I won't even drive to the dumpster at the end of my driveway now!

This car wreck was recent, I wasn't driving btw. My girlfriend crashed us dodging bambi...

The whole DUI thing happened back on april 21st, do you know it takes over 5 months to get your bloodwork back in kentucky? The two incidents are unrelated lol. I appreciate the humor though that was pretty funny.
