Alaska- We have been renting a home since August of 09. We signed a lease for one year. We choose not to renew and are currently month to month. In anticipation of a possible move into a new city due to work, I looked over our previous lease and found a provsion I had not noticed before. According to the lease we signed, our lease automaticaly renews to a year if we do not give notice and move out in August 2010. Does anyone know if this is legal? Thanks folks!

Check to see if your lease allows you to sublet to another tenant...or allows you a "lease termination" clause (typically a couple of months rent) if the move to the new city pans out. These allows you to get out of your lease without the risk of legal repercussions to your credit history down the road.
