What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
This is going to be fairly long and drawn out, so bear with me. This all started when a friend and I were talking about the US Military forces here stateside. We came to the conclusion that the country would be in trouble if we were ever invaded by a sizable military force. The reasons we came to this conclusion aren't really important, so I won't go into detail about that here. As we talked, we came on the subject of militia as a legitimate line of defense for the citizens of the US. Of course, to be truly effective though, it would have to be highly organized and nation wide. This, in and of itself, might be illegal, not sure. I am not even sure where to look to see if it were. Either way, talking further, we decided that if anything were to exist in that capacity, it would have to have a very clear mission, and that would be to protect the people and their property.Nothing more, nothing less. Militia has always been associated with extremists though, so it would be important to be completely clear as to the mission of such an entity. We said our goodbyes for the night, but the idea stuck in my head. Then I thought a bit more, and came up with something a bit more feasible. If a group existed thats sole mission was to protect private citizens and their property, then we would have to protect EVERY aspect. This would include natural disaster relief, crime (to an extent, they would have to work with law enforcement here, like private security), maybe even to go so far as to provide legal and financial help. So, the biggest question I have, is it legal to build such a company, make it a non-profit organization and charge a small fee to members to join, and still have "combatants"? People that would train in force on force tactics? I know, even with the long explanation, that there are a few holes here, and please feel free to contact me privatively if you wish to fill in those holes. If you can't see my email address, it is [email protected]. Thank you all for your time.
