I am unclear on how getting a bank account levy works. We are in a dispute with local county government regarding taxes (being double billed). Our accountant says we don't owe but getting billed anyway. They have already levied our bank account once and ended up having to pay it back (of course it took them 8 weeks to cut us a check). Now they are threatening to levy the account again if we don't pay. I always thought before a bank account could be levied you had to go to court and then the judge would award the judgement then the account can be levied. Is this incorrect? How does getting a levy work then? Thank you for any help.
