Calrify the question:
Did your Primary say " go to the ER now."?
What do you mean?

Me thinks these are homework questions since they are the same poster.
Please ask a specific question and provide facts.
We do not do homework.

Liability regarding follow up medical care

College Health in the state of PA

We are an acute basic healthcare center for students at a small university.
We frequently must refer students to an area emergency room or area specialist.
If we refer to the ER or a specialist, do we need to follow up with a phone call to see if they actually went to the ER or the specialist as they were told?
Sometimes, students do not follow through with recommended medical advice.
If we call and they inform us that they did not follow advice, what is our obligation to them?

This is a theoritical question, depending on the situation, facts, it could have different answers. These are questions that clinicians cover in their training and your insurance carrier and legal counsel, should be able to assist you in developing a policy. But to be on the safe side, don't assume that making a referal ends your responsibility. Also remember to document, document, document.
