is it illegal in tn to have street glow vanity license plate frames that light up in orange? the light is sandwiched between the car bumber and the back of the registered tn license plate. it does not impair the visibility of the lettering on the plate.

There is nothing is the Tennessee statutes that specifically bans illuminated licence plate frames but that is not to say that they are legal either. TN statute 55-9-402 states that the only lighting allowed on the back of motor vehicles are the red tail and stop lights and a low intensity light to illuminate the license plate. And statute 55-9-415 bans most auxillary lighting from the back of motor vehicles. If a cop does not like the lights, the above statutes could be used against you. If you do not want to be pulled over for the frame, do not install it. My state bans flourescent or neon lighting to be on while a vehicle is on the road.
