What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

GS_50-13.2

"An order for custody of a minor child may provide visitation rights for any grandparent of the child as the court, in its discretion, deems appropriate."

How does this balance with Troxel? It seems that under this statute, that grandparents can 'add on' as parties to a custody case and get their own visitation -- without proving much of anything.
