What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

"Okay, I'll accept that the firing was not illegal. But why would they not use company letterhead? They used it when they hired me. Seems odd they wouldn't use it for firing. Any ideas as to what MIGHT be a reason? Thanks."

Some possible reasons:
  1. They'd run out of letterhead paper that day.
  2. The person typing the letter didn't like the company letterhead's esthetics.
  3. The company was under the mistaken impression that it was firing you illegally and thought - again mistakenly - that if it notified you on plain white paper, it would be mitigating the what it thought was an illegal situation it was wilfully and knowingly engaging in.
billyk, your original post in Tutliputli's thread was about the responses to Tutliputli's issues. And that's not hijacking, that's participating. When you turned your posts into your issues, that's when it became a hijacking.
