What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana

Police: Officer Baited In Altercation That Injured Him - Indiana News Story - WRTV Indianapolis

Was reading this news story and wondered what the seniors thought of this incident. Elders at an african american church, in an effort to test the response of white police officers to 'black-on-black' crime, stage a fight when a white officer is present. The officer then tries to stop the fight and is allegedly injured in the process.

People are claiming that there is no cause to sue the church or its elders over his injuries since he was injured while performing his duties - based upon the "firefighter's rule". But police are not exactly firefighters and the church officials are more akin to arsonists than merely homeowners.

Do you think a personal injury lawsuit has merit here?

A little backstory - there have been many racially charged incidents in Indy recently, including some police brutality claims, which is why the church stupidly came up with their plan.

I doubt that the cop has a cause of action.

As far as he knew, he was doing his duty.

The "church" people, however, may have some real problems with the law.
