Virginia (only U.S. law)?
Hi, I was wondering if there is such a thing that protects husband or wife from paying the other half's financial liabilities (credit card, medical, and other life maintenance bills) as well as spousal support after divorce?
Let's say, Mike just married to Judy. Mike works and makes $30k/year and Judy makes $15k/year. Suddenly, Judy became sick and had to be hospitalized, no insurance per se, now Judy and Mike owe $15,000 to the hospital, they start paying monthly and after a year, Mike or Judy files for divorce. Does Mike still have to pay for Judy's medical bills? How about spousal support, if they married only 3years? How about if Judy had court proceedings(during marriage) and owed to court $5000, will Mike be liable for that after divorce?
I know there such a thing as a prenuptial agreements. Can it be made up so Mike won't have any financial liability and be protected from any financial liabilities to Judy? This is in the state of Virginia
Thank you for all your inputs!
