I am renting a house (furnished) and last night a tree on the property fell and severely damaged my car. Is this something that I can get the landlord to pay for (is it their liability, to be covered by thier homeowners insurance), or should I use my car insurance?

Homeowners insurance should cover it, however be prepared for the landlord to tell you it wont.

I am leaning toward your car insurance taking care of this. I was actually just having a discussion with my mother (who's in the insurance field) last week about a similar situation.

Could be considered a freak of nature unless the tree was known to be diseased.

Call your car insurance up & ask them, that's what they are there for. If they think it's the landlords fault they can go after his insurance for reimburstment.

Good Luck, hope everything works out as stress free as possible:)
